FrootVPN is located in Sweden. The service first showed up in 2014, when it was free and advertised on The Pirate Bay. In the intervening years, it’s become a paid service, but still might be a good option for torrent users. Overall, the company seems to be quite good on the privacy front and to have all the basic features that anyone wanting to increase their overall levels of online privacy would be interested in.
FrootVPN offers unlimited bandwidth and speed with military grade encryption which can be used on 5 simultaneous connections.
Pricing & Plans
FrootVPN offers several different pricing tiers, but they all come with the same range of features. Any plan will give you access to L2TP, OpenVPN and PPTP with 2048-bit encryption. The pricing is as follows:
- 1 Month for $9.99
- 12 Months for $3.33 per month (total of $39.96)
- 24 Months for $2.49 per month (total of $59.99)
Every plan comes with unlimited transfer and bandwidth. You can pay with PayPal, Perfect Money, credit cards or Bitcoin.
There might be a bit of confusion, though. Their homepage shows a different pricing for their 1 month, 12 month and 24 month plans. However, upon selecting a plan or clicking on their “pricing” page, it shows a different cost as seen on the image below (and on the buttons above).
Free Trial/ Money-back Guarantee

We Liked
FrootVPN is easy to set up with an OpenVPN client. We also appreciate that they have competitive pricing and accepts Bitcoin payments.
Areas for Improvement
Those who prefer a custom-made client won’t find one here, but the OpenVPN client is more than adequate.
Conclusion
FrootVPN provides a good service. Their speed was competitive when we tested it and they seem to have a solid commitment to user privacy. Sweden is a good jurisdiction for privacy, though not the best, so there’s an advantage here for those who wish to get their VPN service from a more trustworthy nation than the US where surveillance is concerned. This is a competitive service, not a standout among our preferred providers, but certainly worth considering.
