We Liked
HideIPVPN has a very streamlined client which is easy to use and is intuitive. We especially like that the speed with this provider is very good and that they have advanced VPN protocol options.
Areas for Improvement
What HideIPVPN could really improve on is the number of servers they have in each nation they are in, or even widen their network even more by having servers in more countries.
Conclusion
This is a pretty good VPN service all around. HideIPVPN offered great speed, even when routed across the country one extra time during testing. The only thing that suffered was the ping time, which is inevitable. The client is very simple, but allows you to use five different VPN protocols, a standout feature of this service.
I don’t know how old this review is but those speeds are nothing like realtime speeds on HideIPVPN today(July 2011). Having seen those, I did a 3 speedtests & got:
BEST download: 0.52 Mb/s (YES, megaBITS!), so somewhere around 65 kilobytes/sec
BEST upload: 0.67 Mb/s, so around 85 kilobytes/sec
I don’t know if this site gets commissions but showing speeds 40 to 120 faster than real world figures is misleading to say the least.
VPN is good if you want to hide your real location. However, about content streaming, I prefer the DNS option. Currently, I am using Overplay and have no speed loss which allows me HD streaming with my 10mbps connection.
